Certificate II in Community Health and Wellbeing, provides students with the necessary entry level skills and knowledge to work towards a career in Community Services and Health.
Covering foundation material, it also provide information on the range of career options and opportunities that exist in the sector and can be used to help guide enrolments into future Certificate or Diploma program.
This course is intended to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to perform the following tasks associated with the sectors:
- Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, management, and other industry providers.
- Develop strategies to manage personal stress in the workplace.
- Facilitate the empowerment of people including fostering their rights and facilitating choice.
- Follow safe work practices.
- Develop an understanding of how to work and communicate with diverse groups.
- Follow standard and additional precautions for infection prevention and control.
- Respond to an emergency (situation).

Core Units
HLTINF006 Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and controlÂ
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to apply basic infection prevention and control principles in work settings including implementing standard and transmission-based precautions and responding to risks.
CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health and community services
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, management and other industry providers.
CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required for workers to participate in safe work practices to ensure their own health and safety, and that of others.
HLTWHS006 Manage personal stressors in the work environment
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to maintain health and wellbeing by preventing and managing personal stress.
HLTAID011 Provide first aid
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.

CHCCCS002 Assist with movement
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to support people who require assistance with basic physical movement which may be due to incapacity.
CHCCCS020 Respond effectively to behaviours of concern
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to respond effectively to behaviours of concern of people. Skills are associated with handling difficult incidents rather than managing ongoing behaviour difficulties.
CHCCCS010 Maintain a high standard of service
This unit describes the skills and knowledge to deliver and maintain a high standard of service.

Course Delivery Schedule
This one day a week classroom based course runs over three school terms. It is aimed to provide students at school with basic industry specific skills and knowledge to enable transition into higher levels learnings within the Community Services or Health sectors. This course may also provide the students with basic industry specific skills and knowledge to gain employment in the Community Services or Health Sector.
Duration:Â 30 weeks, 7 hours per day face-to-face
Day: Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday – Depending on your cohort
Location: AMA Training Facility or at your own school

Course Fee
This program is 100% free for eligible school students thanks to WA state funding. Please confirm with the admission team on your eligibility if you are on a Visa.
Eligibility conditions apply for fee-free training. Please refer to the information under “Who can access subsidised training such as the free or reduced-fee qualifications” at Jobs and Skills WA.
For students ineligible for state funding, a Fee For Service may incur, please speak with our Enrolment Team for more information.
Entry Requirements
There is no formal pre-requisites for this course. To better understand applicants’ core skills prior to training and better guide our student support services, students are required to take an online LLN (Language, Literacy & Numeracy) test.
Students are required to possess basic computer literacy skills and have access to internet, as assessments are completed on our online Learning Management System – aXcelerate.
This course is currently ONLY available to students who are still enrolled at school.
Award Requirements
To achieve this Nationally Recognised Qualification, students will need to successfully complete all units in this course plus the mandatory work placement hours.
Students will partially complete the qualification will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units they are deemed competent.
Career Opportunities
This program is intended as an introduction to the sector and does not lead to any employment outcome.Â
Further Studies
The course offers an excellent entry point into the community service industry for high school students, helping them gain a nationally recognised qualification with practical workplace skills.  Â
Students can look at enrolling into Cert III, Cert IV or Diploma level qualifications in CHC and HLT training packages, such as:Â

Assessment Methods
This qualification is assessed through a combination of the following:
- Knowledge Assessments (Online via our digital Learning Management System – aXcelerate)
- Direct Observation/Demonstration (Performance Verification)
- Third-party Verification & Record of hours (logbook)
- Projects (Online via our digital Learning Management System – aXcelerate)
- Case Studies (Online via our digital Learning Management System – aXcelerate)
Work Placement
As part of this course you are required to complete a mandatory work placement arranged/negotiated by AMA Training. It is an industry requirement for you to achieve and successfully complete a minimum of 110 hours work placement. You will be provided with forms and a work placement logbook to record your placement.
Please note you will be required to:
• Provide a satisfactory National Police Certificate (NPC) within the last 3 months prior to placement. (Approximately $58)
• Provide a copy of your most recent myGov Vaccination Certificate prior to placement.
In addition, some placement hosts can also request a copy of :
• Working with Children Check (Approximately $11)
• NDIS Screening (Approximately $11)
Please note that the above items, as well as transport to placement sites and parking costs, are out of pocket expenses to be covered by the student.
